Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed that he suffers from gastroenteritis, which caused him severe pain, during a live broadcast on Tuesday.
Erdogan paused the broadcast for a while, then came back and said: “I wish you health. Yesterday and today there was a lot of campaign work. So I got gastritis. I even considered canceling the programme. But we came back. I apologize to you and our viewers.”
He looked visibly tired and then answered a few more questions before the broadcast ended.
On Wednesday, Erdogan made electoral rounds in 3 states in the center of the country, following the advice of doctors to take a rest at home.
In 2012, the Turkish president underwent two surgeries to remove benign tumors from the stomach.
He is seeking to win the Turkish presidency in the general and presidential elections scheduled for May 14.
President Erdoğan continues his broadcast after the break:
I was seriously cold.
I wish good luck to our audience. pic.twitter.com/RRwQvuHHxk
