Former Punjab Chief Minister and leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal party, Parkash Singh Badal, passed away on April 26, 2023. His mortal remains were brought to his native place, Lambi, for the last rites. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to Badal and tweeted about his passing. Badal was a leader who fought for the truth and for the welfare of the poor, according to National Conference President Farooq Abdullah. The Congress canceled all events scheduled for the following day out of respect for Badal. The Punjab government declared a holiday on April 27, and people queued up at the Shiromani Akali Dal office in Sector 28, Chandigarh, to pay their last respects to the former chief minister. Badal’s cremation took place on April 27 and his passing was mourned by politicians from across party lines.
