Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp has finally rolled out support login multi-device for more than one HP.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the rollout of this new feature on Facebook and Instagram. In fact, this feature already existed in Telegram and Messenger.
“Starting today, you can enter the same WhatsApp account on up to 4 cellphones,” he said, quoted from TechCrunchWednesday (26/4/2023).
WhatsApp says that this feature is rolling out to all users in the coming weeks.
Until now, users can only use 1 WhatsApp account on 1 cellphone and several companion desktop devices.
With this new launch, user messages will be synced across devices including other phones. So even if one device is turned off, they can access apps on other devices.
WhatsApp is one of the largest messaging services with more than 2 billion users. But they didn’t have multi-phone support till now due to encryption support end-to-end full for messages and calls.
The company starts testing multi-device compatibility in 2021 with select beta users. Back then, Meta (then known as Facebook) said it had developed a new technology to sync messages across devices while maintaining end-to-end encryption protection.
Other competitors such as Telegram and Messenger already offer multi-device sync for messages, but they lack support for encryption end-to-end.
In 2022, WhatsApp started providing multi-device features for everyone. But it doesn’t support many phones. WhatsApp is also rolling out a new way to link devices using a one-time code.
“You can now get one-time-use codes by entering your mobile number on WhatsApp Web, which you can use to link devices instead of scanning a QR code on your phone. We will make this feature available to more linked devices in the future, the company said in a blog post.
