Luis Alfredo Garavito, known as ‘the Beast’ and considered the biggest murderer of children in Colombia, is one of the most infamous criminals in the country’s history. Born in Génova, Quindío, in January 1957, he is responsible for the death of more than 200 minors.
Garavito, who is considered the second serial killer in the world, would also have murdered adults, so for the authorities this subject would have taken the lives of 300 people in total.
His story has gone around the world due to the chilling nature of his personality. As has been known, Luis Alfredo grew up in a very humble family in Génova (Quindío), he was expelled from several schools and in his adolescence he began to develop his obsession with hurting children.
‘The Beast’ disguised himself as an informal vendor, a beggar and even a disabled person to gain the trust of the children and thus achieve his mission: kidnap them and take them to remote places to torture and murder them.
He was captured in 1999 and at that time he acknowledged having taken the lives of 200 children, many of them were found buried in remote areas of different municipalities, but most could not be identified.
In the last few hours, the name of this bloodthirsty subject resounded again after an image was released of what he looks like today from La Tramacúa prison, in Villavicencio, where he spends his days.
The journalists Kevin Pinzón and Rafael Poveda from the Direct Witness program came to interview him in 2020 and showed the deplorable state in which everything is due to eye cancer he suffers from.
