Dock Worker Allegedly Shoots and Kills CasaPound Militant in Genova’s Historic Center

“Call the police, I killed a man, I killed a man.” Philip Giribaldi43 years old, expresses himself with difficulty as he makes his way, running, inside the basilica of the Santissima Annunziata, in the heart of the center of Genova. It is a “camallo”, or a port of the Single Company Workers Merci Miscellaneous of the Ligurian capital (Culmv), as well as a leading figure of Libera Piazza, an association no vax e no green pass.

Inside the church stands Jean Pascal Colì, the sacristan, who together with another person try to calm him down. “He was upset and was still wearing work gloves,” he later said. The forces of order, alerted by Colì, arrive shortly after and handcuff the dock worker.

It’s just after 6pm. A few meters away, in via Pollerilies the lifeless body of Manuel DiPalo, 38-year-old CasaPound militanthit by at least two 22-caliber shots. In that artery of the old town usually frequented by tourists, between the Rolli palaces and the Aquarium, the 118 health workers rushed, who unsuccessfully tried to revive him.

Minutes earlier, Giribaldi allegedly shot Di Palo at the climax of a lite. The dispute would have started in Salita San Bartolomeo del Carmine: here the dock worker would have fired some bullets that went empty. The two would then have chased each other up to via Polleri, where the 38-year-old died.

L’murder weapon it was found not far away, hidden under a car parked in Piazza Bandiera, and was taken over by forensics. The magistrate on duty, Eugenia Menichetti, also immediately arrived on the spot, and the area was closed to traffic to allow the investigators to carry out the findings of the case.

Manuel Di Palo was already known to justice: in 2020 he was sentenced, together with two other people, to 8 months on probation for an’aggression with stabbing which took place in 2018. The victim of the group, on that occasion, had been an anti-fascist who was putting up some posters not far from the Genoese headquarters of CasaPound.
