Police Shoot Young Man During San Francisco de Macorís Strike, 8 Armed Robbers Steal Cash and Cheese

A young man was shot this afternoon by police officers who were facing street demonstrations in the upper part of San Francisco de Macorís, in the heat of the strike called by the Collective of Popular Organizations.

Although calm prevailed throughout the city until after noon, mobilizations began in the afternoon in the San Vicente and Pueblo Nuevo sectors.

Felipe de Jesús, as the affected person identified himself, has a gunshot wound to his right leg and was taken to a care center.

The wounded man explained that he was walking along Avenida Libertad at the corner of Juan Pablo Duarte when a police officer shot him.

Around 5 this afternoon, clashes were reported in the San Martín de Porres expansion between protesters and law enforcement officers, specifically on Calle 5 and Bienvenido Fuertes Duarte corner.

In the midst of the strike, it was reported that eight hooded and armed men, traveling on four motorcycles, robbed a business establishment in the Hatillo community, on the San Francisco de Macorís-Villa Tapia section, carrying cash and grocery items.

The business affected by the assault is “Parador Queso Marilisy”, where the hooded men arrived, firing several shots and carrying an indeterminate amount of money.

Likewise, they stole edible items, mainly cheese, which is processed in the aforementioned inn. The assault was said to have been caught on security cameras.
