Liverpool is reportedly keeping a close eye on Giorgio Scalvini, whom they consider as the most promising young defender in Italian football. The 19-year old has established himself as a key player for Atalanta, scoring two goals in 25 Serie A appearances this season. Liverpool’s interest in Scalvini has been piqued by his versatility, as he can operate both in defensive midfield and at center-back, an area where Liverpool needs reinforcements. While several top Italian sides, including Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli, are also showing interest in Scalvini, Liverpool seems to have an upper hand over the others, as they do not have budget problems. Scalvini is under contract until 2027, and Atalanta is likely to demand more than €40m for his services. Klopp and his recruitment team are on the lookout for central midfielders, and Scalvini could be a perfect fit, as he won’t require a mammoth outlay.
