It was only a few meters that an Unnaer (74) drove his car to move. But the short distance was enough to make him guilty of drunk driving. His mistake cost him dearly.

The pensioner had almost 1.4 blood alcohol levels in his blood when he came up with the idea in the city center on the night of October 15 that his car would be better off in the driveway than on the street. He took action. With bad consequences: he was caught, his driver’s license was gone and he received a penalty order with a fine of 1,500 euros and an eight-month ban on the driver’s license being reinstated. He appealed, hoping for clemency.

In the process, his lawyer described the act as a crazy idea. The client only drove seven or eight meters and did not think that he would take part in road traffic. “A thing like that won’t happen to him again.” The aim of the objection was to get the blocking period out of the way.

In fact, that hope came true. With a view to the insight, the clean past and the short distance, he got his driver’s license back. However, the fine of 1500 euros remained.
