In April 2023, Russia’s average daily casualty rate very likely dropped by about 30 percent. This follows extremely heavy Russian losses in January-March 2023.
This was announced by the British Ministry of Defense in its daily summary of the war in Ukraine.
Figures released by the Ukrainian General Staff show a drop in daily average Russian casualties from 776 in March to an average of 568 so far in April. British intelligence cannot verify Ukraine’s exact methodology, but the general trend is probably accurate.
Russia’s losses were very likely reduced as their attempted winter offensive failed to achieve its objectives and Russian forces are now focused on preparing for the expected Ukrainian offensive operations.
