“Beware of Fake Lego Deals on Social Media: Tips to Stay Safe”

Special offers for Lego & Co. are particularly popular on bargain days such as Black Friday or Prime Day. You should be on the lookout for really strong deals in between – especially if they are offered on social media channels such as Facebook. Perfidious: The offers look real and a look at the profile even shows the correct address of the Lego store in Berlin. Like the platform for investigating Internet fraud and false reports Mimikama reported, such offers are fake.

Now, now, now: all just lies

According to Mimikama, status posts on Facebook lure users to dubious websites abroad. The wording of the offer sounds genuine and credible. However, the urgency should already make you suspicious. The post reads something like: “Lego releases old sets from previous collections for only 1.95 euros. Please note that the packaging may be slightly damaged. All promotions you can see on the website. Click the ‘Now Apply’ to get the special price now! Hurry, stock is limited!”

No action by Lego

The accompanying photo shows a child holding a Lego box. Yellow signs with the supposed price of 1.95 euros flutter around in the picture. Overall, the whole thing gives the impression of a bad assembly. Lego confirms that this is not a company action. On the demand of a user it says something like: “Hi! The campaign is not an official campaign by us and is also not one of our official partners.” According to Mimikama, however, it is difficult to determine exactly where the users are being ripped off, as the entire process is very opaque.

How to protect yourself

First of all: Be skeptical about offers of all kinds on social media and especially about deals with such low prices. Mimikama advises checking whether it is an official site. If in doubt, check directly with Lego. COMPUTER BILD explains in a guide when you are protected when shopping online and how you can best protect yourself.
