BOLASPORT.COM – As many as six contestants, including 3 top players, have withdrawn from the 2023 Asian Championships.
The change in the list of contestants occurred ahead of the 2023 Asian Championships at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, starting Tuesday (25/4/2023) today.
In the most recent update, six performers earned promotion from the qualifying rounds to the main draw to replace those who were unable to compete.
The first player confirmed to have resigned was the second-seeded pair from Japan, Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino.
The three-time All England Open champion decided to step aside due to Watanabe’s leg injury while competing at the 2023 England Open.
Watanabe/Higashino decided to withdraw from the match when they met Korean representatives, Kim Won-ho/Jeong Na-eun, in the round of 16.
Watanabe even had to use a wheelchair when leaving the arena.
Another featured contestant who withdrew was Thailand’s mainstay women’s singles, Ratchanok Intanon.
The one-time Asian champion reportedly canceled his match due to his unfit body after contracting the flu.
