Turkey Donates Puppy to Sedena in Honor of ‘Proteo’, the Rescue Dog Who Died in Middle Eastern Earthquake

The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) reported that Turkey donated a puppy after the death of the rescue dog ‘Proteo’, which died during the search for survivors of the earthquake that affected the Middle Eastern country.

“We are honored to share that a puppy Tuco will join our ranks, donated as a show of solidarity and empathy for the unfortunate loss of our Proteus element,” the agency detailed in their social networks.

The Sedena pointed out that the puppy donated by Turkey “will be guided under the footsteps of our dog-loving pairs, who will instruct it in the search and rescue specialty.”

In addition, he promised that his new member will be an “heir to a story of loyalty, heroism and love.”

On February 7, Mexico sent a humanitarian brigade to support the rescue efforts after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria.

‘Proteo’, ‘Orly’, ‘Ecko’, ‘Timba’, ‘July’, ‘Balam’ and other canines were the puppies that traveled with the rescue teams made up of elements from Sedena, the Navy (Semar) and of the Red Cross.

“You fulfilled your mission as a member of the Mexican Delegation in the search and rescue of our brothers in Turkey. Thank you for your heroic work! ”, The agency wrote on its social networks without specifying the cause of his death.

After that, both in the Middle Eastern country and in Mexico, ‘Proteo’ received tributes. For example, fans of the Trabzonspor team displayed a typhus in gratitude to the countries that sent humanitarian aid for the earthquakes and among the elements present was the face of the rescue dog.

Meanwhile, in March, the Sedena unveiled a statue and a commemorative plaque in honor of the dog. “To the memory of our faithful friend and the recognition of the value of our Canófilos binomials”, reads the plaque, whose image was shared by the Sedena in its facebook account.
