Tottenham Sacks Interim Manager Cristian Stellini After Humiliating Defeat at Newcastle

Sunday’s 1-6 defeat at Newcastle cost Tottenham the job of interim manager Cristian Stellini. Hotspur representatives announced today that they have sacked the coach with immediate effect. After the humiliating debacle, the club’s prospects of finishing in the top four of the Premier League, which would mean promotion to the Champions League, have been complicated.

“Cristian stepped up at a difficult time of the season and I want to thank him for the professionalism he and his team have shown in such a challenging period,” said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in an official statement.

Former assistant Ryan Mason will now take over as manager. The 31-year-old coach should remain in office until the end of the season, the management of the London club will continue to search for Antonio Conte’s permanent successor.

The Italian coach ended up on the Tottenham bench in March. Stellini’s team took over in fourth place in the table, but is now in fifth place. They are six points behind Newcastle and Manchester United, and have played more matches.
