The Civic Type R once again took the record at the Nürburgring, but it had to be helped by several modifications. Still, it’s not a scam, Honda just quietly introduced a new version.
Last week on Thursday, the Japanese automaker Honda boasted that with its new Civic Type R at the Nürburgring between the front wheels she won the record. However, the car was not standard and featured modifications beyond those common to setting the record. However, this is not a scam.
In the notes below the original press release of the automaker, there is a subtle information that the lap time was set by a lightweight version of the Civic Type R model. Attached is the information that this version will also be available to customers, but exclusively with left-hand drive and in Europe.
So Honda rather unobtrusively presented a new version of the Civic Type R. The footnotes also mention its name – S grade. In addition, it is specified that in order to obtain the record used Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tires, customers will also be able to purchase them, but directly from Michelin, not when ordering a car from Honda.
The press release does not provide further information about the Civic Type RS (grade), but colleagues from Autoblog.com managed to find out from Honda what the essence of the car is. First of all, it’s less weight, so there’s no air conditioning, parking sensors, trunk lid, trunk nets, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, vanity mirror lighting in the sun visors, and navigation hardware.
The outside mirrors are no longer heated and they also lost electric adjustment and folding. Honda has not yet disclosed the specific weight or the number of kilograms saved. In addition, the Civic Type RS (grade) can only manage with a lower weight, according to the Japanese automaker, the drivetrain and chassis were not affected.
On the one hand, the information about the new version of the Civic Type R is interesting, on the other hand, it would be similarly interesting to know how fast the standard version would be on the Nürburgring. Especially when the S (grade) version is only for Europe, so its lap time is not very relevant for other markets. We do not yet know the price of the new product, but the regular Type R on our market starts at CZK 1,349,900.
