Sponsor of Nîmes Olympique from 1986 to 1992, Antoine Sauli, who created the Catavana group, died on Monday morning at the Nîmes University Hospital. He was 79 years old.
Antoine Sauli, 79, died on Monday April 24 at the CHU de Nîmes where he had been hospitalized on Sunday. Born in Corsica, he had grown up in Nîmes where he arrived at the age of five, his father, a prison guard, having been transferred to the remand center in the Gard capital. With his wife Sylvette, he had created the Catavana group, which has become the French leader in the sale of tools by mail order.
“Catavana, the tool hurricane”, sponsor of the Téléfoot program
“Catavana, the hurricane of tools” was the slogan of the company whose development had been facilitated, at the time, by a significant advertising investment, in particular the sponsorship of the Téléfoot program on TF1. Approached by the mayor of Nîmes Jean Bousquet, Antoine Sauli had also become a sponsor of Nîmes Olympique. Catavana thus appeared on the Crocos jersey from 1986 to 1992.
“Antoine marked the history of Nîmes Olympique”
“He was passionate. Antoine marked the history of Nîmes Olympique. His disappearance pains me a lot”, reacted Patrick Champ, president of the Association of former Nîmes Olympique including Antoine Sauli, who divided his time between Saint- Clément, in Haute-Corse, and Nîmes, since his retirement, was a member.
