It doesn’t get any cooler!
Coolness and Hawaiian flair, addressing the viewer directly (“I know what you’re thinking and you’re right”) and of course the mustache: There are numerous reasons why “Magnum” was one of the biggest series hits of the 80s. The role of the private detective of the same name also made its actor a star: The gallery shows what Tom Selleck and his co-stars are doing today…

Die “Magnum”-Crew
They were a powerful and ready-made team investigating Hawaii for eight years (from left): helicopter pilot TC (Roger E. Mosley), administrator Jonathan Higgins (John Hillerman), club manager Rick (Larry Manetti) and private investigator Thomas Magnum ( Tom Selleck) always at his side.

Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck)
Vietnam veteran and private detective, jock and rogue: Thomas Magnum became a cult figure in 162 episodes – also because he always showed humor and heart. For example, when a client couldn’t pay him, she helped him train for Iron Man instead. Result: He solved the case and at the same time completed almost the entire triathlon.

Tom Selleck
Tom Selleck also cut a good figure after “Magnum”: He had a guest role in “Friends” (picture, with Courteney Cox) and was the star of comedies like “Three Men and a Baby” and “In & Out”. However, he was not immune to some cinema flops such as “Christopher Columbus”.

Tom Selleck
He is now one of the biggest (US) series stars again – not only because of his impressive 1.93 meter stature. Selleck has played the New York police chief and family man Frank Reagan (picture) in the crime series “Blue Bloods” since 2010.

Jonathan Higgins (John Hillerman)
His role in “Magnum” also made him suddenly famous: For eight years, John Hillerman (picture, right) played the snobby Brit Jonathan Higgins, who looks after the property of the (never present) writer Robin Masters, where Magnum lives, as a house manager.

John Hillerman
John Hillerman received multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Higgins, winning the latter in 1987 for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama Series. The character was to remain the star role of his career…

John Hillerman
After “Magnum” Hillerman only had smaller roles, for example in the series “Around the World in 80 Days”. He last appeared in The Brady Family 2 in 1996. After retiring from acting, Hillerman died of cardiovascular disease in 2017 at the age of 84.

T.C. (Roger E. Mosley) und Rick (Larry Manetti)
They had fought together with Thomas Magnum in Vietnam and are also at his side with advice and action during his second career as a private investigator in Hawaii: helicopter pilot TC (Roger E. Mosley, left) and club manager Rick (Larry Manetti).

Roger E. Mosley
With his company “Island Hoppers” (advertising slogan: “Your flying carpet to paradise”), TC flew tourists over the island of Hawaii in addition to Magnum. His actor Roger E. Mosley could have done the same, because he is a licensed helicopter pilot. Fun fact: In the series he was not allowed to fly himself and was doubled by a stuntman.

Roger E. Mosley Magnum 2019
For Roger E. Mosley, his role in “Magnum” was to remain the highlight of his career, he had film supporting roles (e.g. in “The Chaos Cop”) and series roles (“Really great, Mr. Cooper”). In 2019 he played the hairdresser of his ex-character “TC” in the remake of “Magnum” (picture). Mosley died on August 7, 2022 at the age of 83 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Rick (Larry Manetti)
He was Magnum’s “contact man”: Rick (Larry Manetti), raised after the death of his parents as the foster child of a crime boss, had good connections to organized crime and obtained information for the private investigator this way.

Larry Manetti
After the end of “Magnum”, Larry Manetti was no longer able to claim any great successes, he did not get beyond guest appearances in series (“Renegade”, “Walker, Texas Ranger”) and a few small TV film roles. But he also insisted on being in the “Magnum” remake: he had a small role as lounge singer Nicky “The Kid” Demarco (picture, left).
