Unlike Bulgaria, in Greece they do not joke about the disasters on the seashore and do not turn a blind eye, but severely punish the violators.
A beach bar on the island of Mykonos received a huge fine for illegal construction, the Greek publication Ekathimerini reported.
The penalty is a record high – 33 million euros. The sanction consists of two parts – 22.5 million euros due to the construction of facilities in an unauthorized place plus another 11 million euros for each year of their operation.
In addition to having to pay the record fine, the owner will have to remove the illegal objects located on more than 500 square meters of area – according to the finding protocol. There is already an order for their demolition. It was issued after inspections by the Ministry of the Environment. The owner has the right to appeal the demolition decision within 10 days.
