The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced that the evacuation of Filipino workers in Sudan will begin “within 24 hours,” as three Filipinos have already been safely evacuated and arrived in Jeddah. The DFA plans to evacuate Filipinos in batches, either via land travel northwards to Egypt or water travel eastwards through the Port of Sudan, with the embassy already renting evacuation buses. As the number of registered Filipinos in Sudan reaches 696, the DFA requests employers to return passports to workers, while those without valid passports are advised to coordinate with the Philippine Embassy in Cairo. Alert level in Sudan may increase from Level 2 to Level 3 as tensions continue to rise. Contact details for the Philippine Consulate in Khartoum and Philippine Embassy in Cairo are provided in the article.
