The Sharjah Book Authority announced the organization of the second session of the International Distributors Conference, at the Sharjah Expo Center, on the first and second days of next May, which will bring together 383 book distributors, including 160 from 17 Arab countries, and 223 from 52 foreign countries. , within an integrated program, with the aim of providing new opportunities for publishers to explore new distribution and marketing mechanisms.
The conference, which is being held in conjunction with the activities of the 14th session of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, will host 18 workshops and a variety of panel discussions, in addition to presenting 15 projects proposed by publishers to advance the book industry. The conference is witnessing the participation of a group of industry experts, led by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, founder and CEO of the “Kalimat Group”, where she will participate in a keynote speech, and Ahmed bin Rakad Al Ameri, Chairman of the “Sharjah Book Authority”, and the pioneering businessman Marcus Dohly, former executive director of “Penguin Random House”, and Steve Jones from “Kinokunya Books UAE”, and others.
The first day witnesses the participation of a number of speakers representing major publishing houses, retail stores, book fairs and libraries from all over the world, to discuss ways to improve the sector, through many tips and strategies, including: Mark Thornton, Sarah Dennis and Joe Caldwell.
The second day’s activities will witness a keynote speech delivered by Steve Jones from “Kinokunya Books UAE” entitled “The Five Elements of Marketing for Retail Stores: Successes, Failures and Lessons Learned in 30 Years in Bookselling”. In the second keynote speech, Julie Belgradeo sheds light on the issue of sustainability, before That Gaurav Sabharwal of Prakash Books present a discussion session for publishers entitled “Bookselling and Distribution in Southeast Asia”, in addition to three inspiring discussion sessions in Arabic.
