The associative hospital in the city center of Toulouse, eminently strategic in the quality of care provided to the poorest, is at a turning point in its history. In order to ensure its future, the structure needs 15 million euros to modernize its activity.
The management of the Ducuing hospital has put the small dishes in the big ones. It was a question of showing an audience of elected officials, including Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse, how fundamental this health establishment with a social vocation was for the quality of care in downtown Toulouse. The raout took place on Friday, April 21. The associative hospital created after the Second World War by Spanish Republicans is embarking on a very ambitious investment program, particularly in real estate. “In a very competitive world, it is imperative to modernize our healthcare offer or risk seeing our hospital disappear,” explains Claudine Regourd, president of the Friends of Social Medicine (AMS), the association that manages the establishment, but not at any price. It is out of the question to overcharge fees or cut back on less profitable medical activities. »
The hospital center, of which 22.4% of the patient population is in a precarious situation, needs 15 million to launch its investment campaign. Cathy Garcia, the director of the establishment, details the main lines: “Our objective is to become the “flagship” hospital in the city center. For that we had the authorization to raise our buildings. This will make it possible to rehabilitate the existing with the improvement of the hotel offer and to develop our image with the general public. We will be able to install the beds already authorized by the ARS (10 Editor’s note) and make the health course more fluid. We are also going to develop outpatient and day hospitalization which are more and more necessary. She then only briefly mentioned “the development of new activities”: “I am superstitious, I prefer not to deflower our strategy” but we can expect major announcements in the months which come in particular on the regular monitoring of certain serious pathologies. On the current state of the finances of the structure, the framework did not want to quantify the amount of the deficit but that the hospital worked to reduce it.
While waiting for this extremely important investment campaign, the management of the Ducuing hospital is pursuing an active policy in order to have the quality of its care recognized. As Catherine Garcia explains: “This year, we obtained the Labelix (1) certification obtained for the quality of our imaging services. We should soon obtain the Ihab (2) label in progress in obstetrics. »
Feedback from users is also excellent, according to the internal satisfaction questionnaires. Medical and rehabilitation care such as outpatient surgery are popular with patients with a satisfaction rate approaching 100%. The maternity ward of the establishment retains a very good reputation despite certain unfortunate episodes which La Dépêche echoed (see edition of January 13). It has increased in capacity “We had five delivery rooms, we went to 6. Last year, we carried out 2,600 deliveries. This year, we hope to cross the 2,700 mark to reach 3,000 in 2024”, projects Cathy Garcia.
In addition, Didier The director general of ARS Occitanie announced that maternity would be recognized as level 2A (3).
