Senator of the Russian Federation, mother of TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak Lyudmila Narusova in an interview with a Russian Forbespublished on April 22, told what the “Prigozhin effect” is and why she is not going to leave the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
She stated that she considers it the right decision to remain as a senator, despite the fact that, according to her, it is very difficult.
“It is very destructive internally: to be an accomplice – and to be aware of it – of the chaos in lawmaking that is happening around you. You understand and everyone understands that these are anti-constitutional laws, that they violate the fundamental human rights enshrined in the constitution … Nevertheless I think: let there be one voice, but it must be heard,” she said. Narusova also believes that this is how she honors the memory of her late husband Anatoly Sobchak, who was one of the co-authors of the 1993 constitution of the Russian Federation.
Narusova noted that some of her colleagues let her know that they support her, although they do not speak out loud about it.
“This is the ‘Iosif Prigogine effect’. It seems that those people who speak at Luzhniki and at all, at all on-duty state events in support, actually think differently. There are also people who understand, who have preserved some remnants of conscience, honor, but fear is the worst thing I see in our parliament. Some kind of monstrous fear that binds. People are afraid, afraid to express their opinion, support – even to someone who can speak about it,” she said. In her opinion, this applies not only to the authorities, but to the entire Russian society.
Narusova stressed that she was not going to leave the Russian Federation. According to her, living with the feeling of self-imposed exile is difficult.
“To observe from there what is happening in the country and what the ideas that Sobchak had are turning into … To live with the feeling that you cannot do anything from there. Therefore, when the question arose about this, I had no doubts. Moreover, I understood that even in these conditions, my duty, my duty is to still preserve at least a little, at least a small, small territory of those ideals for which my husband fought. Yes, and I, too, “she said.
In 2021, Narusova was included in the sanctions list of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
Narusova did not support the use of the Russian army in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine, the bill “on discrediting the army” and was the only senator who spoke out against the introduction of electronic summonses, Forbes notes.
She did not vote for the illegal “acceptance” of the occupied parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine into the Russian Federation when the Federation Council ratified the corresponding “agreement”.
