An Israeli passenger in a fit of anger while traveling on a United Airlines flight from New York to Tel Aviv forced the plane to turn back after three hours.
Going crazy, this passenger behaved very badly towards the crew members, even after being forced to remain seated in his seat. For the sake of safety, the pilot therefore made the decision to turn around and make an emergency landing at Newark airport, not far from New York.
Also on the plane, which was nearly empty, were members of bereaved families, who were traveling to Israel to take part in Remembrance Day (Yom Hazikaron) commemorations.
The crew informed the New York police of the incident and the Israeli passenger was taken for questioning as soon as the plane landed.
The return flight to Israel was delayed because no runway was clear for takeoff. Passengers will therefore only fly to Israel during the night, while the flight time is expected to exceed the usual duration.
