Campsites in the Czech Republic very often had to increase the price of stays this year, by an estimated ten percent. However, the increase in their costs usually does not cover this, because due to the increase in the price of energy and services, they had less money for investments, explained the chairman of the Association of Camps of the Czech Republic, Bohumil Starý. Bohumil Starý, the chairman of the Association of Campsites of the Czech Republic, runs the Konopáč Autocamp in Heřmanov Městec in the Chrudim region. “They are dependent on electricity. The price of electricity has risen rapidly. Services, waste disposal, laundry have become more expensive. We do not want to raise prices by seventeen to twenty percent, which would correspond to a price increase. We will raise prices by around ten percent and we will have lower profits. There will be less money for investments , because it will only be repaired more,” said Starý.
The members of the association most often operate camps that were established before 1989 as pioneer camps or recreation centers. Areas are owned by municipalities, private individuals or even car clubs. “Municipalities are probably the best, they manage to invest the most. Campsites are not so financially attractive as a business, they are mostly operated during the season, they have to be maintained for a lot of money all year round,” said Starý.
The popularity of campsites has grown in recent years not only due to restrictions on travel due to the coronavirus, but also due to the fact that their level, facilities and service offer are rising.
