Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is facing backlash for his comment regarding the BJP’s Lingayat push for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. The Congress veteran stated, “There’s already a Lingayat Chief Minister (Basavaraj Bommai). He’s the root of all the corruption in the state.” The BJP has reacted strongly to his statement, accusing him of insulting the entire Lingayat community. Siddaramaiah later clarified that his comment was specifically aimed at the Chief Minister. The 75-year-old Leader of the Opposition also indicated his son and grandson to be his political successors in what he disclosed to be his last election. Voting is set to take place on May 10 with the counting of votes to be held on May 13.
