“Inside Grenoble: Fighting Crime and Violence in One of France’s Most Dangerous Cities”

At the foot of the Alps: Grenoble and its 400,000 inhabitants. It is one of the largest cities in France but also one of the most dangerous… With around twenty crimes and misdemeanors per day on average, crime is higher there than in many large cities. Regularly, Grenoble makes the headlines for its settling of scores and its urban violence. Between assaults, drug trafficking and crazy driving, the gendarmes are on all fronts. For several weeks, we followed the 220 men of the Meylan company, at the gates of the city. In particular those of the PSIG, a unit specialized in muscular operations, on the front line to fight against the scourge which plagues sensitive neighborhoods, drug trafficking. On the program: a spectacular operation by the GIGN, called in as reinforcements to arrest a hardened drug dealer. Also discover the daily work of the local brigades against the gangs of thieves who roam the residential areas. Here there are about twenty burglaries a day. Busy weeks for the gendarmes who are also trying to neutralize networks of another kind: those of prostitution, very active in the valleys around Grenoble.
