Van Damme also refers to the Renault law, which stipulates that employee representatives may ask questions and make counter-proposals in the event of collective redundancies. The company in question must answer those questions and examine the counterproposals.
“We have asked several times to apply that law here as well,” emphasizes Van Damme. “We want to start a procedure in which we can first ask questions and then enter into consultation. And above all: look for alternatives. It is clear that the management is not open to this. They do not want to hear about any alternative.”
