Spain Will Not Be Affected by Visa-Free Regime Between EU and Kosovo: European Commission Representative

The introduction of a visa-free regime between the European Union and Kosovo from January 1, 2024 will not affect Spain. This was announced yesterday by the representative of the European Commission, Christian Wiegand.

“All EU countries, except Spain, have recognized the Kosovo documents, so citizens of Kosovo will be able to travel to all Schengen countries, with the exception of this country. The issue of recognition of documents is the national competence of the EU countries”, Wiegand quotes TASS.

Recall that Spain is one of the five countries of the European Union that do not recognize the sovereignty of Kosovo.

Three more Schengen countries that do not recognize its independence – Cyprus, Greece and Slovakia – will accept Kosovo passports. About Romania, which also does not recognize Kosovo, so far there is no talk: although it has been a member of the EU since 2007, it has not been accepted into the Schengen.

The visa-free regime for Kosovo has already been called breaking the “EU matrix”.

“The EU matrix is breaking down before our eyes. What’s the consensus? We forget about consensus and switch to the “Usurpation of the right of the strong” system”, – writes the telegram channel “In ZeRa».

It is noted that the actions of the European Union are aimed at destroying the “democratic principles” of equality, blow up the Union from the inside and nurture contradictions.

“… The top of the European Union will bury him, making politicized decisions that are not supported by individual countries of the Union,” – notes the telegram channel.

Previously EADaily reported that the European Parliament in Strasbourg on April 18 approved a short stay agreement allowing visa-free entry into the EU for holders of passports issued in Kosovo.

The new rules under the agreement, once formally adopted, will allow holders of Kosovo passports to enter the European Union without a visa for any period of 180 days for a stay of 90 days. The purpose of the stay may be business travel, tourism or visiting family, not work.
