Costa Rica Reports Slight Increase in Covid-19 Cases and Deaths in Recent Weeks

Data from the Directorate of Health Surveillance, of the aforementioned portfolio, specify that this number represents a slight increase of 149 positives compared to the same period immediately before, when they reported 1,082 patients with this disease, caused by the SARS-CoV coronavirus. -2 and that arrived in Costa Rica in March 2020.

They also indicate that between April 2 and 8, they recorded 13 deaths from Covid-19, almost two per day, and an increase of two deaths in relation to the 11 reported in epidemiological week 14.

The report states that in the previous week the daily average of hospitalizations was 140, 130 of them in the ward and 10 in the Intensive Care Units (ICU).

This constitutes almost the same figures in relation to the previous seven days, when the average number of hospitalizations reached 139, of them 129 in the ward and 10 in the ICU, the official report specifies.

As of May 30, 2022, the Ministry of Health stopped offering the daily report on Covid-19, a fact attributed to the cyber attack suffered by the Costa Rican Social Security Fund -in charge of public health in Costa Rica- a day later , since this entity is the one that collects the health data.

This cyberattack caused serious damage to its digital systems and the provision of its services and now Health only reports the situation of this disease in Costa Rica once a week.
