Information on Meningococcal Vaccination Mistake and Advice for Residents

ResidentsInfo about meningococcal vaccination on April 19

Did you receive a personal message from GGD Brabant-Zuidoost about the meningococcal vaccination on April 19? We are very sorry if you and your child are shocked by this message and if you are now worried. Our apologies for that. On this page we would like to give you some more information. Do you have more questions? Call us Monday morning from 8:30 am, we can be reached on 088 0031 100.

Unfortunately, we made a mistake: 1 child is not protected against the meningococcal virus.

On Wednesday, 1 child received an injection with only the solvent, but without vaccine. We sincerely apologize for this mistake and inconvenience.

It is safe for your child

It is safe for your child if he or she may have only received the diluent in the injection.

The dissolving fluid is always in the lancing device. When preparing the injection, we mix this solvent with the vaccine. And that was not done properly with 1 injection.

How do I know if this is about my child?

If this concerns your child, you will have received a personal message from us on 20 April. By telephone, by e-mail or by letter. Got the message not directly received from us, then it’s fine not about your child.

Advice for these children: get a new vaccination

We think it is important that everyone is well protected against the meningococcal virus. That is why we advise the children who have been personally informed by us to get vaccinated again. This is possible on Monday 24 April from 13:30 -17:00 at the Callenburgh location in Helmond. If this is not convenient, you will receive a new invitation from us.

Don’t worry: it is safe for your child to have 2 meningococcal vaccinations in quick succession. And it is also safe if your child may have only received the diluent in the injection.

Didn’t you receive a personal message about this from the GGD? Then this advice does not apply to your child.

We find this mistake very annoying and are taking extra measures for the future

Thanks to our quality checks, we quickly discovered the mistake. We know exactly which group of children it concerns, we have personally informed those parents. We are investigating how the mistake could have happened and are taking steps to prevent it in the future.
