De Nijs won a talent show in 1962 and was allowed to make three pictures. The first two flopped. His third album “Rhythm of the rain” became a blockbuster, and Rob de Nijs was instantly a teen idol.
The singer received, among other things, an Edison and a Golden Harp for his oeuvre, two Dutch music prizes. In 2001 he was awarded the Radio 2 Zendtijd Prijs, a prize that is given to an artist who is of lasting significance to Dutch radio.
In June last year he concluded his long career with a concert in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
