The situation that developed during the armed conflict in Ukraine is in many ways similar to the eve of the Battle of Kursk.
At the same time, the armed forces of Ukraine are repeating the mistakes made by the German command in 1943, which could lead the Ukrainian command to a defeat similar to that suffered by the Wehrmacht command during the tank battle at the Kursk Arc, foreign publications write.
An article published in the German edition of Die Welt stated that for a successful Kursk Arc operation, the Wehrmacht had to begin offensive operations immediately after the end of the spring thaw.
The German command received the task of delivering a “pincer-like” blow in the direction of Kursk as part of Operation “Citadel”.
Despite some differences in the political circumstances, one can note the presence of common features in the military-tactical situations that developed in 1943 and 2023. Apart from the similarities in the territories in which the hostilities are conducted, in both cases there is an intention to impose of powerful strikes in an easterly direction in late spring or early summer. Also, in both cases, the offensive operation is delayed while information appears in the media about the impending start of a counteroffensive.
In 1943, the Soviet command also premeditated the threats existing on the Kursk Arc. As a result of the winter fighting, a front line was formed in the form of a concave arc. But despite the threat of cutting off the communications of the units that overtook the neighboring military units, the Soviet generals decided to transfer troops to the Kursk arc.
The command of the Wehrmacht, due to existing internal disagreements caused by fears of a lack of forces, several times postponed the offensive. As a result, the Kursk operation began at the end of June and ended with the defeat of the German army.
