Eating the pulp with its peel is one of the wrong habits that some people commit, without paying attention to the extent of the damage they may suffer, according to Dr. Rami Salah El-Din, a clinical nutrition consultant.

Rami said that peeling the pulp may lead to wounds in the throat, larynx, pharynx, and stomach wall, and the reason is due to its sharp edges, especially when swallowed without chewing it well.

He pointed out that the stomach faces great difficulty in fully digesting the pulp peel, and with the accumulation of its remains in the intestines, the risk of intestinal obstruction increases.

The therapeutic nutrition consultant added that eating the pulp without peeling it may increase the risk of developing digestive disorders, such as indigestion and constipation.

He explained that one of the reasons why peeling the pulp is very important is that the outer shell contains a high percentage of salts, and this is what makes it a pastime that is forbidden to patients with high blood pressure.

At the end of his speech, Rami stressed that eating the highly salty pulp peel may lead to high levels of sodium in the blood, and then the development of high blood pressure, fluid retention in the body, and damage to the health of the kidneys.
