Captain Harry Maguire and goalkeeper David de Gea was the main culprit of his elimination Manchester United from the Europa League after being beaten by Sevilla 0-3.
Man United lost 0-3 to Sevilla in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, Friday (21/4) early morning WIB.
The home team’s three goals were scored by Youssef En Nesyri who scored two goals (8′, 81′), and a goal contribution from Loic Bade (47′). Interestingly, the two goals scored by En Nesyri were the fault of Maguire and De Gea.
In Sevilla’s first goal, Maguire’s backpass to De Gea led to En Nesyri’s goal. At first Maguire passed to De Gea, then the former Leicester City defender again asked De Gea for the ball by showing a hand gesture.
At that time, Maguire was immediately joined by two Sevilla players, one of which was En Nesyri. Unfortunately for MU, the ball that Maguire tried to throw to the left hit Erik Lamela, then En Nesyri grabbed it and scored a goal.
The Moroccan national team striker’s second goal was also thanks to De Gea’s blunder. The Spanish goalkeeper misjudged the Sevilla player’s side kick.
De Gea’s anticipation of being alone at the back is unclear, wanting to control or pass directly. The reason is, because of De Gea’s decision, the ball did not reach his own team-mates.
The wild ball was immediately struck by En Nesyri with a left foot shot and into the empty MU goal.
The 3-0 victory in the second leg made Sevilla win 5-2 on aggregate over the Red Devils, after the first leg drew 2-2.
Maguire won the trust to start in the second leg of this quarter-final after Man United’s two main defenders, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were injured.
