Twitter’s New Fee Results in Removal of Xbox’s Direct Share Functionality to the Platform

For years, you’ve been able to share screenshots taken by your Xbox directly to Twitter. As of late yesterday, this is no longer an option. The reason for the removal was that Twitter, led by Elon Musk, had decided to charge companies an “activation fee” of $42,000 to access its API functionality.

Unfortunately, this also affects the Xbox Game Bar on Windows 10 and 11, but not the Xbox app on smartphones. More third parties are reportedly doing the same (removing share support), but we haven’t heard anything from Nintendo or Sony yet.

While we do understand that Twitter needs to make money, basically sharing stuff on social media is a counterproductive way to do it, or what do you think?
