When it comes to receiving additional help at a restaurant, most people would not expect an individual in the royal family to lend a hand. However, Prince William recently surprised patrons at a local KFC branch by taking a customer’s order himself. The incident was a result of Prince William observing the worker’s distress due to the shift being short-staffed. This unexpected act of kindness and humility shown by a member of the royal family has garnered positive attention, sparking discussions about the significance of leading by example and aiding others in their time of need.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, made an impromptu restaurant reservation for two while on a visit to Birmingham. The Prince and Princess of Wales were at the Indian Streatery restaurant in Bennetts Hill when William took a phone call from unsuspecting customer Vinay Aggarwal. The second in line to the throne made the reservation, gave directions to the restaurant and then quipped: “He knows where you are now, I probably sent him somewhere else in Birmingham so I apologise.” The couple then found themselves seated next to Aggarwal and his wife Ankita Gulati. Aggarwal, a software engineer from London, said he had “no idea” that William had taken his call, and that it was a “very nice surprise”.
The Duke and Duchess revealed they both “love curries” and “secretly try lots of curry houses around the country”. During the visit of the pair, which took place ahead of the King’s coronation, the Duke and Duchess revealed they enjoy spicy food. William confessed he was “a masala man”, while Kate revealed her love for spice, and said the food at the Indian Streatery was “so nostalgic”. The couple also cooked rotis, a traditional Indian flatbread, during their visit, and took part in a cooking competition judged by restaurant owner Meena Sharma, which Kate won.
Sharma praised William for answering the phone and suggested he could have a role as a front-of-house manager, advising: “we could probably employ him to take phone calls in future as he did a really good job.” The restaurant’s menu features a cocktail named after each member of the family behind the business, but William admitted he had no idea what he would call a cocktail inspired by his wife. The Duke said he preferred vodka and enjoyed a Kamikaze cocktail as they were “silent but deadly”, and Kate admitted to enjoying cooking Lebanese food and saying: “I quite like tequila”.
The visit was part of a wider tour of the country by the Duke and Duchess, who also made a secret trip to visit Polish and British troops. The Duke has been recently viewed as being pitched as a global statesman as the UK prepares for the future reign of King Charles III.
In conclusion, all it takes is a simple act of kindness to make someone’s day. Prince William’s recent gesture of taking a booking for an unsuspecting customer during his restaurant visit not only made that person’s day but also sent a powerful message to the world – that no matter who you are, a little bit of kindness can go a long way. It’s heartwarming to see someone in such a position of power and influence using it for good, and hopefully, this will inspire more people to spread kindness and positivity wherever they go.
