Abdelilah Benkirane, secretary general of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), has warned the government of Aziz Akhannouch of the possibility of social unrest, such as the “February 20 Movement” triggered at the time.
“They (the three coalition parties) couldn’t even go out and tell Moroccans to be patient. They don’t know how to communicate and say the onion is scarce,” Benkirane said at a meeting of the parliamentary PJD group Friday evening in Rabat. The former prime minister was highly critical of Akhannouch’s team’s communications, saying he had received “several complaints from citizens who, despite their precarious situation, no longer benefit from RAMED medical assistance, or no longer receive their widows’ aid”.

Abdelilah Benkirane fears that at this rate a remake of the “20 February Movement”, a protest movement that emerged in Morocco on February 20, 2011, is imminent, following a wave of protests and revolutions in other countries in the MENA region, which known as the “Arab Spring”.

“The February 20 Movement can come back. The government has not kept its promises. Not everything can be attributed to the war in Ukraine. The governance of the government has several shortcomings,” said Benkirane, quoted by Gold. According to him, there is a lack of “trust and cohesion” between the various parts of the government.
