A delegation of artists, artisans and creators will show their work and share their knowledge with Tlaxcalan migrants
Tlaxcala, Tlax on April 19, 2023 (Editorial).- With the aim of strengthening ties with compatriots living in the United States and showing the wealth and history of the entity, the state government, through the Directorate of Attention to Migrants (DAM), Casa Tlaxcala New York and the Secretary of Cultura (SC), performs from this Wednesday, April 19 to April 23, the Tlaxcala–New Heaven Brotherhood Day.
During the day of activities, a committee of artists, artisans and creators will show their work and share their knowledge with Tlaxcalan migrants who live in the city belonging to the state of Connecticut in the United States of America.
For the inauguration, to be held at 6:00 p.m., a group of artisans from Huamantla made a monumental 15-meter carpet with sawdust of different colors at the entrance to the New Heaven City Hall.
On Thursday, April 20, the visual artist Alan Peña Netzáhuatl will create a street mural with a collection of icons representative of the history of Tlaxcala and the writer Guillermo Serrano will present his book called “My black grandfather, my grandfather güero, my Indian grandmother, my white grandmother.”
One of the most representative elements of Tlaxcalan culture is textile art, therefore, this same day, at 1:00 p.m., the art exhibition and pigmentation workshop are inaugurated by the Nezahualcóyotl workshop in the municipality of Contla.
At the same time, the teachers Esther Arely Atriano and Rocío Rodríguez will share their knowledge in the elaboration of totomoxtle figures and songs in Nahuatl.
To continue the day, there will be an exhibition of art in seeds, taught by Daniel Balderas, in addition Carol Espíndola will open the exhibition “Atlantis or utopia of the female body.”
On Friday, April 21, at 8:00 p.m., maestro Claudio Israel Vázquez Herrera will give the didactic concert Salterios de Atltzayanca, where the public will enjoy the music and learn a little about the history and development of this string instrument.
This day will culminate with a gastronomic sample of the traditional mole from Tlaxcala, prepared by the traditional cooks Esther Arely and Rocío Rodríguez. The Ixtenco pepenado embroidery will also be present, as Teresa Sánchez will share this ancestral technique and to end the Tlaxcala–New Heaven Brotherhood Day, groups from different municipalities of Tlaxcala will dance to the rhythm of the carnival.
