Sometimes all you need to be happy is popcorn and a good movie at the cinema. Good thing, then, that something big is on the way for movie buffs. The Fantasy Filmfest Nights returns to Stuttgart. From 20.04. until 23.04. films are presented in the city center cinemas that are otherwise not seen in German cinemas. You can find out here which films are included and where you can buy tickets.
If you’ve had enough of Marvel, DC and Co and would rather switch off with horror, thriller or sci-fi, the festival is the place for you. The Fantasy Filmfest has been held annually for 36 years and offers alternatives to the mainstream offer in the cinemas. The Nights series is the little brother of the festival and always takes place in spring. Films from different countries will then be shown across Germany over four days. In order not to undermine the authenticity, all films are shown in their original language with subtitles.
Which films are shown at Fantasy Filmfest Nights
A total of 17 films, including an opening film, will be shown in the city center cinemas from Thursday (April 20) to Sunday (April 23). “Carefully told stories and characters, targeted shocks and gags – these are the ingredients of the fantastic film that we are presenting on these four days of the festival,” write the organizers. The word fantasy in the name does not necessarily stand for what is usually understood by it. According to the organizers, it should be more about imagination, innovation and bizarreness.
Let’s take a sneak peek at some of the upcoming movies:
Evil Dead Rise (7:30 p.m.)
The film Evil Dead Rise is awaited with great excitement this weekend. As the name suggests, this is a bloody zombie movie. Directed by Lee Cronin. If you’ve always wanted to see how a piece of furniture can be converted into a deadly weapon, you’ve come to the right place. Only so much can be revealed: With a cheese grater you can not only grate delicious Parmesan.
Pearl (7:15 p.m.)
The sequel to Ti West’s film X. A film full of suspense and horror that combines a mixture of Wizard of Oz and Psycho.
Blood & Gold (6:30 p.m.)
A German film also made it onto the Fantasy Filmfest Nights list. Blood & Gold is an action-packed drama from Netflix. A German deserter is targeted by a predatory SS troop on his way home to his daughter.
Irati (5.30 p.m.)
The only “real” fantasy film this weekend comes from Spain. In the luggage swords, magic and heroes. A dark saga about the young king’s son Eneko, who embarks on an adventurous journey. With the aim of securing his claim to the crown. He is accompanied by a forest creature named Irati. Bloodthirsty cave trolls and gigantic snakes await.
New Normal (9:45 p.m.)
A Korean horror film with a cast worth seeing. Maybe known to some from the Netflix series Squid Game, Lee You-Mi plays one of the main roles in this gory horror film. Six stories are told about the madness and chaos that keeps Seoul in suspense for four days.
Smoking causes coughing (17.15 Uhr)
A wacky, funny film from France. The “Tobacco Forces” are strongly reminiscent of the Power Rangers, only that they come with a uniform look. Their goal: rid the world of tobacco addiction. But since they messed up on their last mission, they are sentenced to a team building weekend.
Since many of the films shown on the days are horror films, the minimum age is set at 18 years.
