A beloved sweet shop has reopened its doors after being forced to close due to high bills. The family-owned business had been a staple in the community for years, but when bills started piling up, they had no choice but to close their doors. Now, with a smaller-scale operation, the shop is back and better than ever. The shop has a loyal following and the news of its reopening is sure to bring joy to many.
After paying all of his increased bills and finding himself with only 97 cents in his business account, the determined owner of a sweet shop in Navan, Co Meath had no choice but to close. Ednan Hameed and his family were under immense pressure due to their constant financial demands and struggled to maintain their mental health. Despite receiving a significant amount of support from his community, Hameed refused to take government support and instead started again on a smaller scale, using his passion and outpouring of local love to spur him on.
Yummy Creames, Hameed’s popular sweet shop which he had opened using his own family savings, had to close due to surging traditional sweet costs, along with energy and other expenses that left him feeling defeated. However, Hameed refused to let this setback end his entrepreneurial dreams and is currently awaiting a new sweet packing unit where he will store stock and prepacked party bags for occasions. In addition, he has been travelling to car boot sales and markets in recent weeks.
Hameed explained that he refused to give up, stating that it was not in his nature. Although the first month of closure was very tough for him and his family, he refused to go on jobseekers’ support and instead took a smaller unit out the back of his previous shop to hold his stock. He is now selling on social media; offering party packages and providing a candy cart, crisp and doughnut walls for events.
Hameed is aware that people can probably get his sweets a lot cheaper in multiples or make the party bags themselves. However, seeing people place orders to help him out is a heartwarming experience. Hameed is determined to continue; he has three children to support and to show a good example to. He hopes that his children will grow up seeing that their parents tried their best, and that is all that matters. Despite making mistakes, Hameed has not let his failure defeat his spirit. He encourages anyone struggling to share their thoughts and embrace the support of their community to get back on their feet.
In a world where small businesses are constantly facing challenges, it’s heartwarming to witness one overcome adversity and make a comeback. The reopening of this sweet shop on a smaller scale is a testament to the determination and passion of its owners in pursuing their dreams. It’s a reminder that setbacks may happen, but they do not define us unless we let them. As the community once again indulges in the sweet treats of this cherished establishment, let’s continue to support and celebrate local businesses, and the resilient spirit they embody.
