Runner Disqualified from Manchester to Liverpool Ultramarathon for Using Vehicle

The 47-year-old competed in the Manchester to Liverpool ultramarathon on April 7, but she was unable to run all eight miles. When the energy got tired, she simply got into the car and drove four kilometers, then returned to running.

Zakrzewski was exposed when it turned out that she had completed the four kilometers in just one minute and 40 seconds – fast even for being behind the wheel.

“We can confirm that a competitor has been disqualified after advancing with a vehicle during part of the race,” race director Wayne Drinkwater told the BBC.

Adrian Stott, a close friend of Zakrzewski, tells the BBC that she feels bad about his move.

“The competition did not go as planned for her. She felt tired and sick,” says Stott.
