Albert Rusnák Sr., coach of the Slovakian under-20 football team, enthusiastically welcomed the allocation of the final tournament of the World Cup to Argentina (May 20 to June 11). Before Friday’s group draw, he said that it would be wonderful if Slovakia’s home team became the opponent.

In March, the International Football Federation (FIFA) withdrew the rights to host the championship from Indonesia. On Monday, FIFA officially confirmed that the championship will take place in Argentina.
“I welcomed the decision with enthusiasm. We are very much looking forward to going to a country that won the world championship in the men’s category and is also one of the cradles of football. With the negative thing that happened that FIFA took away the tournament from Indonesia and we were in uncertainty of what will happen, it ended extremely well,” said the forty-nine-year-old coach of the Slovak 20s in an interview for the Slovak Football Association (SFZ).
At the end of March, Slovak youngsters played a double match in Malta. In the first match, they beat the home team 2:1, and in the second, the match ended in a 1:1 draw. The final block of preparation awaits Albert Rusnák’s wards. “We are planning a training camp from May 7 to 11. We will see who the clubs release for us, we have discussed it with them. We will talk to them even before the camp itself, it will be important how the teams stand in the table. Some are playing for promotion, for the title, for the play-off or for relegation. The situation can change with each league round. There are still two rounds in the top competition and also in the II. League before the clash. I believe that everything will fit in such a way that the clubs release those players, which we want” added Rusnák.
The online draw for the championship will take place on Friday. Rusnák revealed who he would like in the group: “First of all, we’re going to enjoy the tournament. We want to show what’s in us, how we’ve been able to improve since the European Championships. Of course, we all have an opponent we’d like to play against. Getting home to Argentina would be something amazing, also for the atmosphere .”
