Renowned Pastor Dr. Charles F. Stanley Passes Away at 90: A Look at His Life and Legacy

The renowned pastor, Dr. Charles F. Stanley, died this Tuesday at the age of 90 in the morning at his home, according to the Atlanta Baptist Church, in the United States.

“Dr. Charles F. Stanley, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Atlanta, passed away this morning at his home,” the trill read, adding, “We are grateful for his enduring legacy of faithful leadership and spiritual guidance as Senior Pastor of FBA, for more than 50 years.”

Pastor Stanley, much loved by the community, passed away at 7:30 in the morning on April 18, at the age of 90.

The importance of Pastor Charles Stanley

Charles Stanley was a theologian, preacher, missionary, writer and Baptist pastor and was especially known through his radio and television programs, which reached thousands of people.

According to his obituary, Stanley became recognized in different parts of the world through his content:

Known to audiences around the world through his far-reaching television and radio broadcasts, Stanley modeled his 65 years of ministry on the Apostle Paul’s message in Acts 20:24:

“Life is worthless, unless I use it to do the work assigned to me by the Lord Jesus, the work of telling others the Good News about the great goodness and love of God.”

Charles Stanley was born on September 25, 1932, at the height of the Great Depression that began in the United States in 1929, causing a deep economic crisis.

The pastor was born in Dry Fork, Virginia and was raised by a widowed mother after his father died when he was just nine months old.

At the age of 14, he received a call from the Ministry, he studied for a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, as well as a Bachelor of Divinity at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, in the state of Texas.

Stanley later earned Master’s and Doctor of Divinity degrees from Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta State.

His foray into the media began in 1972.when he started with a 30-minute program called The Chapel Houro Chapel Hour in Spanish, which was presented on television stations in the area of Atlanta WXIA y WANXhoy WGCL.

With the passage of time, this program was renamed as In Contact with Dr. Charles Stanley and it began to spread throughout the country since 1978, after the chain Christian Broadcasting Network contacted Pastor Stanley to create a practical Bible teaching program to be distributed via satellite.
