A Florida man was killed and another person was injured after lightning struck a boat during a thunderstorm.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reported that the victims were boating on the Indian River in Brevard County last Sunday when lightning made contact with your boat, according to NBC News.
Peter Strong39, of West Melbourne, and the passenger were trapped in the water when a strong thunderstorm hit the area, authorities added.
Unfortunately, Strong died of his injuries despite attempts by rescuers to revive him, as reported by Florida Today.
The FWC said that the second victim suffered minor injuries, according to both cited media.
Strong was the father of a 13-year-old girl.; he spent much of his life at Pineda Point Marina and was an avid boater and fisherman.
A second person, identified as one of Strong’s friends, would have “been trying to become a captain.”
The FWC said agents are investigating what is believed to be an accident.
It should be noted that Florida was hit with severe weather recently for over a week, including a series of storms that dumped more than 15 inches of rain on the state.
