Electric car maker Tesla’s new factory will be located in Mexico, but it is unlikely to be built as quickly as first hoped and thought. The representative of the Mexican government, Samuel García Sepúlveda, revealed this in an interview, stating that the factory in Mexico will need a year longer to start production than it once happened at the factory in Shanghai – in China, the factory was built in nine months, but in Mexico it will not succeed so quickly.
In an interview, Sepulveda says that Tesla will produce an electric car available to the masses at a lower price in this factory, so a completely new production line is being developed. This new electric car will use a cheaper platform, which is different from the ones currently used, reducing production costs and also the final price. He believes it will take Tesla 12 to 15 months to work out all the nuances.
The representative of the Mexican government also said that in all other respects the work on the construction of the factory is going smoothly and there are no unnecessary obstacles – the issues regarding the water supply of the factory have already been sorted out, as well as the gas and electricity supply issues have been resolved. Currently, it is waiting for Tesla to finish the design and then the construction work can start.
