Adolescents in Semi-Closed Regime Receive Vaccines to Prevent Outbreaks: A Successful Campaign

Within the framework of the vaccination campaign, adolescents who are serving a sentence in a semi-closed regime were inoculated together with officials, to prevent outbreaks inside the juvenile justice compound.

Health personnel from Cesfam Emilio Schaffhauser went to the Semi-closed Center of La Serena to vaccinate young people who are serving a sentence against Influenza and, likewise, officials from the facility dependent on Sename Coquimbo.

On the occasion, doses against Covid-19 and Bivalent were also applied for those who had their incomplete vaccination schedule. In total, 32 people were vaccinated against influenza and additionally, four of them completed their schemes against Coronavirus.

The young people valued the instance of being able to inoculate themselves inside the sanctions compliance center. Hernán (17) commented in this regard that “it seems good to me, I think I would not have gone to get the vaccine, so better for me, because it is easier that way.”

Meanwhile, the director(s) of Sename Coquimbo, Patricia Alfaro, assured the importance of guaranteeing access to health for adolescents, for the benefit of their reintegration processes “young people do not lose their rights by having been in conflict with the justice. In this period of resocialization, their medical check-ups, their participation in health operations and vaccination campaigns are as important as their classes, training and workshops”.

The purpose of the operation is to protect the health of adolescents, officials and officials, in addition to avoiding outbreaks and casualties in the care and attention of adolescents, guaranteeing the proper functioning of the facility. This was highlighted by its director, Dámaso Lagos.

“It is positive that the operations can be carried out in the centers, where the young people are carrying out their activities, because this allows coverage to be increased, awareness-raising strategies to be carried out, young people and their families to be informed and, at the same time, to carry out follow-up. The advantage that it is inclusive, that is, that both young people and officials do it in the same instance, is that there is also a space to talk about the importance of vaccination and active prevention ”.

Similarly, workers from the Coquimbo regional office were incorporated into the immunized payroll.
