“PKS President Visits Mahfud Md to Discuss 2024 Political Calendar”

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md confirmed that he had been visited by PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu. Mahfud said the meeting discussed the 2024 political calendar.

“It’s true, I received a visit from PKS President Pak Syaikhu on April 15 last week. He was accompanied by my best friend since he was in the DPR in 2004-2008 Pak Almuzammil Yusuf. Pak Almuzammil is Vice President of PKS. There is also PKS deputy general secretary and PKS activist Yogya Abdul Azis ,” said Mahfud when confirmed detikcomTuesday (18/4/2023).

“We discussed the 2024 political calendar. I stated that the 2024 elections would take place. The government will guard the constitutional calendar,” he continued.

Mahfud said that in the meeting they also discussed the future of Indonesia. Mahfud said he was rewarded with books by PKS.

“We discussed the future of Indonesia. I was presented with a book made by PKS entitled ‘Caring for Indonesia’,” he said.

When asked about the offer to become Anies’ vice presidential candidate, Mahfud admitted that he only briefly discussed it. He said what needs to be prioritized so that Anies’ ticket for presidential nomination is not lost and his coalition is solid, don’t hook up cawapres outside of the coalition’s political parties.

“Regarding the presidential/wapres pair, it feels like this was just a passing conversation. I said what must be prioritized is that the coalition of three political parties supporting Anies remains solid so that the tickets that are already in hand are not lost. Don’t invite cawapres from outside political parties but the coalition will break up,” he said.

Mahfud admitted that he did not give a yes or no answer regarding the offer to become Anies’ vice presidential candidate. As part of the government, Mahfud will focus on overseeing the elections as scheduled.

“I don’t answer yes or no, because my focus is on overseeing the election so that it takes place according to the calendar,” he added.
