About the book

A long time ago, somewhere on the coast of Peru, a flock of Chicos lived among the branches of a leafy pacae tree. Nothing seemed to disturb them until one day the drought came and they had to leave. Only one of the boys decides to stay, although he will soon start his own journey taking with him a valuable souvenir.

A rumor comes from the east is an illustrated story for children that takes up the theme of travel, a classic of universal literature, to show the wonderful balance of biological ecosystems and invite us to reflect on life and death as a natural part of that harmony. Through beautiful illustrations worked with pencils and watercolors, the author allows us to accompany the little chico through different coastal landscapes heading east. In his tour, we will appreciate his encounter with other species that allow us to appreciate and value the great diversity of Peruvian fauna.

The first version of this work obtained first place in the illustrated story contest “A Very Rare Story”, organized by the District Municipality of Laredo, in Trujillo (2018). Furthermore, it is the first book by Juan Carlos Yáñez Hodgson as full author of the text and illustrations. The publication of this project is possible thanks to the fact that Rojo & Negro was a beneficiary of the Economic Stimulus for Culture 2022.
