The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in the Philippines will hold meetings with telecom companies to discuss the request for an extension of the deadline for subscriber identification module (SIM) registration. Globe Telecoms, Smart Communication, and DITO Telecommunity have asked for an extension due to difficulties in the registration process and are requesting that other identification cards such as company and school IDs be accepted. The deadline for registration is currently set for April 26. NTC Deputy Commissioner Jon Paulo Salvahan stated that a possible extension is being studied along with the Department of Information and Communications Technology. Failure to register mobile numbers will result in deactivation but the law allows for a maximum of 120-day extension if necessary.
The National Telecommunications Commission will discuss extending SIM registration deadline with major telecom companies and stakeholders.
