Even foreign stars are not immune to health problems. Mariah Carey was diagnosed a few years ago with bipolar disorder, and since then her life has been a nightmare.
Mariah Carey, victim of mental illness
At 54 years old, Mariah Carey has not had an easy life at all. More than once he felt the ground slipping away from under his feet, and all the traumas of his childhood had an extremely large impact on his mental state as an adult.
The artist has had several episodes of depression and has been dealing with health problems for several years.
Ten years ago he had his first mental and physical breakdown, at which time he also received the cruel diagnosis from the doctors: bipolar disorder.
“Until recently, I lived in denial of reality, isolating myself from everyone for fear that someone would make my story known. It was too heavy a burden to carry on. I sought and received treatment, in the end, and surrounded myself only with positive people. Moreover, I focused all my attention on what I like to do the most – to compose songs and sing them”, said the diva in an interview given to the magazine People.
She also testified that she used to suffer from insomnia, and the lack of sleep for days led to a physical and mental breakdown.
The artist’s statements came after she was forced to cancel her concerts and her managers announced that Mariah is at a point of exhaustion that is difficult to overcome.

What is bipolar disorder and how does it manifest itself?
Bipolar disorder is not a rare condition, on the contrary, it is one of the most prevalent affective conditions globally. According to the World Health Organization, around 60 million people worldwide are diagnosed with bipolarity.
People affected by bipolarity, most of the time, are not aware that their states are extreme and become a destabilizing factor in everyday life. However, this is easily noticed by those around, who may be the first to sound the alarm.
Bipolar disorder is diagnosed by a psychiatrist and is managed with a combination of medication and psychological therapy prescribed by a specialist. This is not curable.
The causes responsible for the onset of bipolar disorder have not been fully explained, but it is believed that genetic factors and chemical imbalances that include the activity of serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline at the brain level, favors the appearance of disease-specific symptoms.
