Image depicting two women winning a prize – turned out to be produced with AI.
The German Boris Eldagsen won the category “creative open” i Sony World Photography Award. But the picture depicting two women is not a photograph. Boris has created it with the help of artificial intelligence, AI. The BBC reports.
Initially, the organizer was told that the image was partly created with the help of AI. In the “Creative” category, there is also the possibility of using alternative techniques. But it was not a “co-creation”, but only AI.
Boris Eldagsen announced immediately after the award how he had prepared it. According to the BBC, he wanted to challenge the competition and create a discussion around photography.
“AI images and photography should not compete with each other in an award like this. They are different entities. AI is not photography. Therefore I will not accept the award”, he says according to the BBC.
